Bucs making room for Dunbar?

The Buccaneers would like to hire Vikings defensive line coach and now it appears that job is vacant in Tampa Bay.

Two days ago we reported the Buccaneers were pursuing Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar to take the same job in Tampa Bay.

Although the contract of Buccaneers defensive line coach Todd Wash was set to expire, there was nothing official at that time about his job status. It appears that has changed.

PewterReport.com, which covers the Buccaneers, reports that Wash will not be brought back. Tampa Bay is looking to get more production from a line that second-to-last in the NFL in 2010 with 26 sacks.

The Vikings tied for 20th in the NFL this season with 31 sacks but led the league with 48 in 2009.

If nothing else, Dunbar appears to have put himself in a good position when it comes to getting leverage in contract talks with the Vikings. Dunbar's contract with the Vikings is going to expire so he's looking for a new deal.
