Brooks Bollinger, Ray Betton: Coaches on the cusp

Brooks Bollinger

Previous coaching: Head coach at Hill-Murray in 2011, led it to the state tournament semifinals. Left to be an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

At Cretin-Derham Hall: Named coach in December 2015, led Raiders to a 7-3 record last season, losing to Eden Prairie in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

This season: 6-2 record, first-round bye in 6A playoffs.

Raiders last at state: 2011.

Ray Betton

Previous coaching: Head coach at Simley for four years and East Ridge for one year in 2009. Coached at Holy Angels for five years, leading it to the Class 4A Prep Bowl in 2013 (lost to Hutchinson) and the state quarterfinals in 2014.

At Shakopee: Named coach in 2015, team won one game in each of his first two seasons.

This season: 5-4 record, first round playoff victory over Eastview.

Sabers last at state: 1981.
