A meeting Tuesday will give the public a chance to hear about and discuss a bike and pedestrian path that will connect two segments of the Shingle Creek Regional Trail near Park Center High School.
The $1.3 million, 0.7-mile paved link is to be built next year in Brooklyn Park and a sliver of Brooklyn Center. It will connect about 300 townhouses in the Village Creek redevelopment in Brooklyn Park to Hennepin County's bike trail system.
Tuesday's meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Brooklyn Junior High Media Center, 7377 Noble Av. N., Brooklyn Park.
The trail segment will include an outdoor learning center by the creek for students at the two schools. In addition, the creek bank will be stabilized and cleared to let sunlight reach the creek, said Kim Berggren, a Brooklyn Park development manager.
Berggren said the cost will be covered mostly by an $880,000 federal transportation grant and $300,000 in county grants. The two cities and the Shingle Creek Watershed will pay the rest.
