British Open Weather and Tidbits

The British Open, or simply "The Open," is the oldest major championship inprofessional golf and the only one held outside the United States. The OpenChampionship was first played in October 1860 at the Prestwick Golf Club inScotland.Wouldn't it be interesting if the pros played one tournament with the clubsused back in the 1880s? That's certainly something I'd like to see. I doubtthere would be any 300-yard drives with the old hickory sticks.

And did you know that some of the first golf balls were made of leather andfeathers! No, that's not where the term "birdie" came from. In the beginning, a"bird" was just a great shot on the golf course. It wasn't until the twentiethcentury that golfers started to use the word "birdie" for a score of one underpar on a hole.

The weather for round two of the British Open Friday will be par or better withsome sunshine and a high temperature of 72. On Saturday, there will be a veryerrant shot of rain and wind.
