Burnsville

City seeks to train 6,000 in CPR over next three years

An effort to train 6,000 people on "heart restart" over the next three years includes a class on Thursday in Burnsville. The campaign is a partnership among the Burnsville Fire Department, the city's Mobile Volunteer Network, and the Dakota County Emergency Medical Services Council.

The aim is to reduce the number of deaths from sudden cardiac arrest.

Each year, officials say, sudden cardiac arrest kills about 325,000 Americans, more than the combined total from car crashes, firearms, house fires, AIDS, and breast, prostate and colorectal cancer.

The campaign is called "Burnsville Heart Restart: Who Will YOU Save."

Burnsville fire officials are offering free one-hour CPR classes and materials to any group or organization wishing to learn the skill.
