The Eagan Fire Department will offer a class in hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a simple skill that could save a life.

Most heart attacks occur outside a hospital, at a park, the workplace or the home. Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after cardiac arrest, can double or triple a victim's chance of survival.

The class will be offered Feb. 1 in two sessions — one from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the other from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Both will be at Eagan Fire Staton 2, 2980 Lone Oak Circle.

Register by calling the fire department at 651-675-5900.

Lawyer to handle civil commitments

Dakota County District Court has appointed attorney Joe Dalager of West St. Paul to represent persons who are subject to civil commitment proceedings in Dakota County.

Civil commitment is a legal process under which individuals with symptoms of severe mental illness are court-ordered into treatment in a hospital or community facility. They are awarded legal representation during this process.

Dakota County will pay Dalager $4,778 per month, or $57,339 a year, for the legal services.

County administrator gets outstanding review

Dakota County commissioners reviewing the performance of longtime County Administrator Brandt Richardson said after a recent closed-door session that Richardson had received a rating of "Role Model.''

"The Role Model is reserved for a limited number of employees who in a given year demonstrates extraordinary performance," the board said. "This rating may result from especially noteworthy accomplishments and/or ongoing exceptional performance exemplifying organizational excellence.''

Richardson has led the county administration for 22 years.

This is the first of three years of carpet replacement for City Hall and the Police Department.

The recarpeting will take place from Feb. 10-17 after regular business hours and over the Presidents' Day holiday weekend to minimize disruption to staff and visitors.
