Briefs: Cascade Bay opening for a preview weekend

Cascade Bay, Eagan's outdoor pool and fitness/entertainment center at 1360 Civic Center Dr., will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday for first-time visitors and season-pass holders to get an early start on the season. The regular season begins June 6.

Cardio Bay will not be offered Sunday. Season passes can be purchased at the Eagan Community Center.

The bridge over the Minnesota River on Cedar Avenue (Hwy. 77) will be closed for several weeks in June. Southbound lanes will be closed from Friday until June 15. Northbound lanes will be closed from June 19 to 30.

During the closures, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be fixing a guardrail and bridge joints, and painting the bridge and a walkway.

Eagan Market Fest, a combination farmers market, concert series and weekly community festival, will begin its season Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eagan Festival Grounds at Central Park, 1501 Central Pkwy.

The fest will continue each Wednesday through the end of September.

This week's musical guests are RAMM (Real American Music), which plays classic Motown, R & B, funk, blues, and rock, and the Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, which calls its genre Jazzgrass art-rock.

The group generally meets on the first Tuesday of each month. There is no membership requirement. For more information, call 651-675-5038.

The annual I Love Burnsville Week continues through Saturday with events and activities across the city.

The festivities start Monday with an open house at the YMCA. Other events during the week include tennis and pickle ball lessons, an ice cream social for seniors and mountain bike races at Buck Hill. The events conclude with the I Love Burnsville 5K and Walk with the Mayor on Saturday.

People are invited to bring their gardening questions or samples of weeds, fruits, vegetables, trees, shrubs, turf or insects to a diagnostic clinic. A Dakota County master gardener will provide identification and make recommendations.

People can get help with divorce paperwork using Minnesota I-Can starting at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Galaxie Library, 14955 Galaxie Av.

The event is presented by the Dakota County Law Library, Legal Assistance of Dakota County, the Minnesota Justice Foundation and volunteer attorneys and law students.

A free ice cream social to celebrate the end of another school year will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Farmington Library, 508 3rd St.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Farmington Library.

The City Council is considering an amendment to the city code to include such cafes. More information on the proposed rules for sidewalk cafes is available on the city website, www.hastingsmn.gov.

Job seekers can learn how to be more confident in interviews and strategies to make them stand out from the crowd in a free workshop at 2 p.m. Friday at the Pleasant Hill Library, 1490 S. Frontage Road.

Topics will include types of interviews, common questions and major blunders to avoid. The workshop is taught by staff from the Dakota County Workforce Center.

The LeDuc Historic Estate will host the next Bottom of the Barrel Scotch Tasting from 7 to 9 p.m. June 19.

Volunteer attorneys will offer free 30-minute consultations starting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wentworth Library, 199 E. Wentworth Av. Clients can ask about matters involving family law, such as domestic abuse, custody, child support and visitation.

There are no income restrictions to use the free service, however appointments are required.

Kids who dream of saving the world are invited to the South St. Paul Public Library, 106 3rd Av. N., on Thursday to take superhero selfies.
