Our best wishes go out today to Brian (GB) Leighton, who is undergoing chemotherapy again and had to back out of this weekend's gigs. Among the canceled shows was one at the big 3M Golf Championship today in Blaine, where he will be replaced by pal Tim Mahoney.
Leighton had a rather public battle with testiticular cancer back in 2008 -- public, because anytime the constantly gigging Twin Cities rocker misses one of his shows, it's news. He was back performing just eight days after getting a tumor removed then, and he had been given a clean diagnosis. The cancer battle and a whole lot more played a heavy role in his latest album, "Hope One Mile," issued back in May.
It looks like Leighton is planning a quick return once again: He still plans on making a show next weekend at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church's festival (Aug. 13). No doubt, Brian would be the first to make a joke there about not wanting to miss that particular gig -- to remain in God's good graces. He did cancel his Aug. 12 date at that heathenistic haven Bunkers. A posting on his Facebook page reads, "We are confident he will be back full tilt when he is through with what is hopefully his last week of chemo."
