Brian Dozier will join Twins in time for next series

SEATTLE - Fans eager to see infield prospect Brian Dozier are about to get their wish.

The Twins will select the contract of one of their top prospects in time for the opening of a three-game series vs. the Angels at Target Field. Dozier went 1-for-4 on Saturday for Class AAA Rochester and is batting .276. He will take the place of Justin Morneau, who will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his left wrist.

The Twins also will call up lefthander Scott Diamond, who is 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA for the Red Wings. The Twins have not announced the corresponding roster move to come Monday, but it's expected righthander Liam Hendriks will return to Rochester.

Outfield addition Outfielder Erik Komatsu, with his fourth organization since last July, hopes he can stick around awhile with the Twins after being picked up off of waivers.

"Usually you want to be on one team instead going team to team," he said. "It's been just kind of crazy the past couple of days, not knowing where I was going. I'm glad I've got a place now."

We'll see for how long. But if Komatsu can carve a niche for himself as a reliable player off the bench, he could last. Komatsu, 24, was in the starting lineup against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez on Saturday, going 0-for-3 in the Twins' 7-0 loss.

"He's a Major League Baseball player, and he told me he's ready to play," acting Twins manager Scott Ullger said. "So we're gonna throw him in there. He's got a good test ... against one of the better pitchers in the league."

After the season, he was selected by the Cardinals in the Rule 5 draft. He debuted this year, getting an infield hit in his first major league at-bat.

But after 15 games, and a .211 batting average, Komatsu was on the move again. He was designated for assignment -- and claimed by the Twins.

He runs well and can play all three outfield positions, but this is his first year playing anywhere above Class AA.

Mauer in the bullpen Joe Mauer hasn't caught in a game since taking a foul tip off the inside of his left knee Sunday at Target Field. He ran the bases Friday as if the knee still bothered him some.

But Mauer slipped on the tools of ignorance Saturday and caught in the bullpen before the game.

Etc. • Not good news for Class AA righthander Alex Wimmers, the Twins' first-round pick in 2010. Assistant General Manager Ron Antony, who is with the Twins on the road trip, revealed that Wimmers has a small tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. He doesn't need surgery but is out indefinitely.
