When you think of break dancing, the Minnesota Shubert Center probably doesn't immediately come to mind. But for the second year in a row, the performing arts and education center (renovation starts in November) will host the "Groundbreaker Battle" in the parking lot between the Hennepin Center for the Arts and the Shubert Theater in downtown Minneapolis.

The centerpiece of the all-day event is the break-dancing competition, featuring crews from all over the Midwest. Also performing are hip-hop artists Carnage, Desdemona and others. Plus, dance workshops, live graffiti murals and a panel discussion on the business of hip hop. The best part: It's free to the public (the event is sponsored by Scion).

Info: 1-9 p.m. Sat. 528 Hennepin Av., Mpls. Free. www.minnesotashubert.org
