Brand in brief: Volkswagen

The German automaker has plenty to offer for 2009. The tiny and cool Eos continues to be available, although the V-6 engine option has been dropped, leaving the 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 as the only option. Base price is $31, 480. The GTI also continues for 2009 and Auto Week reports that a new generation of GTI will debut next year. GTI's base price is $23,640. For 2009, a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine option will be available for the Jetta/GLI. In addition, a Jetta SportWagen debuts this year. Jetta's next chapter (a new design) comes next year, Auto Week reports. Base price is an affordable $17,990. The New Beetle sticks around for 2009. A new New Bug is due in 2011, with talk of expanding the lineup with additional versions similar to the Mini mold. Base price for 2009 is $18,640. The Passat and the new Passat CC (Comfort Coupe) are in VW's 2009 lineup. The CC has a four-passenger interior and comes with either a 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower turbo I-4 engine or a 3.6-liter, 280-horsepower V-6. All-wheel drive is available with the V-6. The manual transmission and V-6 options have been dropped for the Passat itself. Base price is $28,990. The new Tiguan compact SUV comes with lots of goodies including a panoramic sunroof, touch-screen navigation, satellite radio, real-time traffic service and auxiliary audio interface. Base price is $23,890. Rounding out the VW lineup are the Rabbit ($16,540), Routon minivan ($25,390) and Touareg 2 SUV ($39,990).
