Boys' basketball preview: 10 metro players to watch

Rashad Vaughn, Cooper, 6-6 jr. forward

Impressive ball-handler. Creates opportunities for himself and his teammates to score. Averaged 25.7 points last season and established himself as one of the nation's top recruits. Continues to add height and strength.

Quinton Hooker, Park Center, 6-0 sr. guard

Helped build Park Center into a contender last season. Averaged more than 25 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists per game.

Jamal Davis, Hopkins, 6-3 sr. guard/forward

The only returning starter for the Royals will have to carry a lot of the load early in the season. All-conference last season.

Graham Woodward, Edina, 6-1 sr. guard

Ian Theisen, Osseo, 6-8 jr. center

Knows how to use his big frame to his advantage. Controls the post and can finish well with right or left hand.

Reid Travis, DeLaSalle, 6-7 jr. forward

His size makes for a tough matchup, even for opponents of similar height. His strength and smarts around the basket help him handle contact and rebound better than most.

Grant Shaeffer, Eden Prairie, 6-1 sr. guard

Nick Anderson, Minneapolis Washburn, 5-9 sr. guard

A lot to prove after a disappointing finish in last season's Class 3A championship, despite making the all-tournament team. He is the Millers' only returning starter and will be led by a new coach.

Carson Shanks, Prior Lake, 7-0 sr. center

The 7-footer will tower over everyone, but his ability to control his big frame and good hands make him a threat near the basket.

Tyus Jones, Apple Valley, 6-2 jr. guard
