WAUSAU, Wis. — A La Crosse man has been sentenced to five years in prison for driving while impaired and causing a crash that killed his 22-year-old girlfriend.

Tyler Deal was sentenced in Marathon County Thursday after the victim's friends and family offered tearful testimony. The 22-year-old Deal lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole in the town of Spencer in February 2012. Paige Delo, the mother of two young girls, died at the scene. Prosecutors say Deal was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash.

Delo's father, Scott Delo, told the judge Deal's decision to driving while intoxicated caused unbearable pain for both families affected by the crash.

Daily Herald Media (http://wdhne.ws/13KIG4C ) say Deal will also serve nine years of extended supervision.
