A 9-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital Sunday after a near drowning in a private pool in Shorewood, Hennepin County authorities said.

The boy was found unresponsive in the pool about 3:15 p.m. at a residence in the 26000 block of Peach Circle.

His condition was not known, according to the Sheriff's Office, which issued a news release just after 8 p.m.

The boy was at the home for a pool party with about 12 people, including his parents.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating.

In the news release, the Sheriff's Office said drownings typically are silent and it can take as little as 30 to 45 seconds for a child who cannot swim to drown.

"The only way to prevent this is to wear a life jacket," the Sheriff's Office advised.
