Authorities on Friday identified the 5-year-old boy who drowned this week in a Burnsville apartment complex pool after he was reported missing about a half-mile away.

Ilyaas Said was found Wednesday in the pool at the Southwind Village Apartments in the 15000 block of Greenhaven Drive and died that evening at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

Officers were called about 5 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Orchard Drive and Cherry Lane about a missing child, said police Capt. Matt Smith.

He said the boy was reported found in the pool at 5:43 p.m. Paramedics tended to the boy before he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
