Bloomington police arrested a 15-year-old boy on Wednesday on suspicion of stealing an iPhone from Minneapolis mayoral candidate Mark Andrew, who was beaten when he chased the thief at the Mall of America.
The Minneapolis boy was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center on a count of first-degree robbery.
Two female teens also have been charged in the Dec. 26 theft and assault.
Andrew, a former Hennepin County commissioner, was in a mall coffee shop when a boy stole his iPhone. Andrew ran after him but was tackled by two females, who beat him with a metal baton and threatened him with death.
Bloodied, Andrew received nine stitches at Fairview Southdale Hospital, where an ambulance took him after the attack.
Letaija Shapree Cutler-Cain, 18, of Brooklyn Park, was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery and one count of second-degree assault. Deea Leshawn Elliott, 17, of Minneapolis, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated first-degree robbery and one felony count of second-degree assault. A motion was filed to try her as an adult instead of a juvenile.
Bloomington police said no additional arrests are expected.
