The brother of Derek Boogaard appeared in court Monday on charges of controlling the addictive painkillers that the onetime Minnesota Wild tough guy was taking until his overdose death.
Aaron Boogaard was charged Friday with felony third-degree sale of a controlled substance and interference with a death, a gross misdemeanor.
Hennepin County District Judge Regina Chu reminded Boogaard of conditions for his release on $10,000 bail, including no alcohol or drug use and submitting to random testing.
Boogaard, 24, did not enter a plea. Another court appearance was set for Aug. 17.
Boogaard wore a gray suit with pink shirt and a tie, and was stoic as he listened to instructions from his attorney, John Lundquist. Lundquist declined to comment after the hearing and Boogaard did not acknowledge reporters as he left the courthouse with two women.
The younger Boogaard, of Regina, Saskatchewan, also faces federal allegations of immigration violations. A court date in that case has yet to be set.
Aaron Boogaard was arrested Wednesday in Minneapolis in connection with his brother's death on May 13 in a Warehouse District apartment shared by the brothers.
Aaron routinely supplied his brother, 28, with drugs and kept his brother's non-prescribed, illegal drugs and attempted to parcel them out on "some kind of limited basis," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said after charges were filed.
