Bone-Chilling Cold on Southern Plains

April 6, 2009 at 5:30PM

Temperatures will crash today as a surge of arctic air continues its plungesouthward and, when combined with the wind, it will feel more like January thanApril. Afternoon highs will only make it to the 50s in northern Texas, including Dallas, with 60s in San Antonio.Winds out of the north at 20-30 mph will counter and warmth gained by mostlysunny skies over the region. Tonight, temperatures will fall into the 30s inmuch of Texas, with upper 20s possible in the panhandle and western areas. Ahard freeze is likely in the normally colder areas, so growers should takewhatever action deemed necessary to guard against any potential damage.

I guess the good news is that this winterlike air mass will be out of hereTuesday.
