A body was spotted Tuesday morning in the Mississippi River near the Ford Dam in St. Paul and has been recovered, authorities said.

The report to the Fire Department came in about 8 a.m., with fire personnel pulling the body from the water about two hours later and turning it over to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office, said Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard.

Police at the scene said the body is that of a white male. There is no other information yet about the age or other identifying characteristics or how long the body had been in the water.
