The body pulled from the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul on Tuesday was identified Wednesday by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office as Sengleng A. Xiong, 22, of Minneapolis.

Xiong's body was discovered by a barge worker near the Robert Street Bridge, police said.

Xiong, who went by his middle name, Alex, was swimming with friends off Raspberry Island late Saturday when he disappeared in the strong current.

His family and friends will hold a public memorial on Sunday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Raspberry Island. Organizers say they will remember their "beloved son, brother, and friend," with testimonials and music. They request that attendees wear blue, Xiong's favorite color.
