Body of missing man, 26, recovered from St. Croix River

Rescue workers on Friday found the body of a 26-year-old man who fell into the St. Croix River last week, according to Chisago County authorities.

Andrew Remley, of Chisago City, fell into the choppy water July 15 while taking a photo with his girlfriend and two young children near a launch point for the Taylors Falls Scenic Boat Tours. Police said he lost his balance on an angled rock and fell into the water around 8:45 p.m.

His fall occurred at a "funnel point" popular among kayakers. A search was suspended an hour after he disappeared below the surface that night because of darkness and the river's speed and height.

It resumed the next day but was suspended around noon because conditions were too rough and the water was too opaque to conduct a productive and safe search. The debris and foam were too frothy for an effective aerial search, authorities said.

Remley's body was found just after 3 p.m. Friday south of Rock Island.
