Maple Grove Police are investigating whether a body discovered in a mining pond is connected with a resident recently reported missing.

The body, found around 6:30 a.m. Friday by a worker near the Martin Marietta Maple Grove Gravel Pit near Valley Forge Lane and 85th Avenue N., was recovered by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol division.

Neither the identify of the body, nor a possible cause of death have been disclosed as of Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Jonathan Proulx said Sunday the body may be connected with a recently reported missing person.

Corey Lee Dixon Jr., 35, was previously reported missing by police after he was last seen on August 18, when he voluntarily left his home on Cottonwood Lane on a blue bike.

Authorities said in a bulletin issued Aug. 22 that there were concerns for the man’s welfare as police sought the public’s help in finding Dixon.

Officials declined to say for sure whether the body found was Dixon’s, noting that the Hennepin County’s Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to soon release the person’s identity and cause of death.
