Fire personnel found the body of an 89-year-old man Sunday morning in Brooklyn Park. He had been reported missing a day earlier.

Police on Saturday asked for the public's help in finding Sylvester Smith, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was last seen in his home in the 6600 block of N. Cherokee Lane about 4 that morning.

When family members awoke at 7 a.m. Saturday, Smith was missing, and they believed he wandered away, police said.

His body was located in a backyard just a few doors down from Smith's home, according to emergency dispatch audio that aired late Sunday morning.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
