Students put a hip-hop twist on 'The Wiz' Students from throughout the Bloomington School District will perform a hip-hop version of the Broadway musical "The Wiz" at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 6 and 7 at the Northwestern Health Sciences University Auditorium, 2501 W. 84th St., Bloomington.

The production will feature students from Indian Mounds Elementary School, Oak Grove, Olson and Valley View middle schools and Bloomington Jefferson and Kennedy high schools. Bloomington's Office of Educational Equity will produce the show.

Eat homemade waffles and help a student The Osseo Area Retired Educators will host their annual Holiday Scholarship Breakfast on Friday to raise money to provide scholarships to high school seniors in Independent School District 279. Last year's event netted $1,200 each for three students' college education.

The menu will include homemade Belgian waffles, fruit toppings, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. Members also will have craft items for sale during the breakfast.

The breakfast will be held from 6 to 9 a.m. at the Osseo High School cafeteria, 317 2nd Av. NW, Osseo. Tickets are $7, and are available at the door. For more information, call 763-391-7114.

EDEN PRAIRIE

Know the symptoms of depressed children Eden Prairie School District's Family Center will host a workshop Saturday on anxiety and depression in children and teens.

The session, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at Central Middle School, 8025 School Road, will be conducted by two Eden Prairie school psychologists. They will outline what anxiety and depression symptoms look like in children and adolescents, and what parents should do to promote mental health among young people. They will also provide more information on resources available for children and teens who need help.
