In the west metro cities, Bloomington and St. Louis Park will have primaries on Sept. 15 to narrow the field of candidates for city council seats up for election Nov. 3.
BLOOMINGTON: Based on filings that closed Tuesday, the primary contest is for an at-large seat now held by Karen Nordstrom, who joined the council in 2006. She is seeking reelection, and John (Stretch) Kjenstad, Tom Tomlinson and Ryan Gopaul also filed for the seat.
ST. LOUIS PARK: Three candidates filed for the Ward 4 seat and will have a primary run-off. They are Julia Ross, Thomas Peterson and Bill Theobald. Incumbent C. Paul Carver did not seek reelection.
NO PRIMARIES REQUIRED
Filings were also wrapped up for other races that do not require primaries. They will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot:
BLOOMINGTON: District I incumbent Steve Peterson will face Jim Algeo for reelection and District II incumbent Rod Axtell is facing a challenge from Thomas Hulting.
ST. LOUIS PARK: Incumbent Ward 1 Council Member Susan Sanger filed for reelection with no opponent.
In Ward 2, candidates are Anne Mavity and Claudia Johnston Madison. Incumbent John Basill did not seek reelection.
