Nearly 15 years to the day after he allegedly fired a fatal shotgun blast at a rival gang member, a Bloomington man was charged in Hennepin County District Court with two counts of second-degree murder.

William Dallas Chaboyea, 34, faces one count of second-degree murder for the benefit of a gang and one count of second-degree intentional murder for the May 28, 1996, death of Michael Baldeagle after Baldeagle confronted Chaboyea and other rival gang members in a southeast Minneapolis alley.

According to charges, police, after years of investigation, spoke with multiple witnesses who were in the alley that night and confirmed Chaboyea fired the blast. Another witness told police he was not at the shooting but that Chaboyea admitted to the shooting and discussed it on multiple occasions.

The unnamed witnesses told police their group, members of the Native Mob criminal gang, were walking to a party when Baldeagle, a member the rival Gangster Disciples, walked up and flashed a gang sign. An argument ensued, and Chaboyea allegedly pulled out a shotgun. The gun jammed and he allegedly removed one shell and fired at Baldeagle as he tried to run away. The group then ran away.

Chaboyea was arrested Monday as he was released from the Sherburne County Jail.
