A blizzard dumping a foot or more of snow will snarl northern New England andneighboring Canada overnight as a severe Atlantic storm rages nearby.Heaviest snow will pile up across most of Maine, northern New Hampshire andnorthern Vermont. Winds of 20, 30 and even 40 mph will blow and drift the snowyielding near-zero visibility. In Canada, Quebec's Eastern Townships, alongwith much of New Brunswick will suffer much the same fate.
The blizzard will make for tough going, at best, on roads and highwaysovernight. Travel may be impossible. As warming from the east will cause thesnow to become wet some areas, the strong winds together with heavyaccumulation of snow could down limbs and power lines. Eastern Maine andAtlantic Canada will have the highest such risk.
Farther south, snow amounts will taper markedly, but at least a few inches ofsnow together with strong winds and blowing will effect areas southward toBoston, Providence, Albany and New York. Travel will be slow and hazardous.
Flight delays, if not cancellations, will take place.
Sunday will see an end to the worst of the storm, but in no way will it beover. Improvement will take time owing to persistent lighter snow as well asblowing and drifting.
