This year, there’s lots of angst over whether inflation-weary shoppers will stick to their budgets and hold the line on spending.

Black Friday is a holiday tradition, for some people as important as the turkey on Thanksgiving. They gather family members or friends and head out. Some have an elaborate plan after checking out the deals ahead of time. Others just want to browse.

Retailers will applaud whatever motivation gets shoppers in the stores. Holiday spending is expected to be flat to down, according to many surveys. The National Retail Federation thinks it will go up, but less than last year.
