Biz briefs: Woodbury Aldi announces October opening

Aldi, the German discount supermarket chain, will open its newest Minnesota store Oct. 5 in the space formerly occupied by Borders bookstore in Woodbury.

Construction began in June and is on track for the store at 8472 Tamarack Bay to open next month, said Aldi spokeswoman Laura Schlageter.

Aldi, which also has outlets in Oak Park Heights, Mahtomedi, Inver Grove Heights and on St. Paul's East Side, carries about 500 select brand products, does not supply grocery bags and accepts cash or debit cards only.

Best Buy to open at Tamarack Village Best Buy, the Richfield-based electronics retailer, will place one of new Best Buy Mobile stores in Tamarack Village. The store, specializing in mobile phones and networks and other forms of portable electronics, will open around Oct. 10, said spokesman Jeff Haydock.

Tamarack Village is at Radio Drive and Hudson Road.

Haircuts for men, like in the old days It used to be that men went to barbershops for a fine haircut and to enjoy great conversations with the barber and fellow clients. That tradition died over the years as salons took over and barbershops faded from the landscape.

A new barbershop called Rooster's Men's Grooming Center will take men back to the way things used to be. Stylists will offer a precision haircut, a head-massaging shampoo, hot steam towels, drying and styling, a brush of powder around your neck and a splash of aftershave.

Costumes du jour Spirit Halloween has brought its line of adults' and children's costumes to the Woodbury Market Place. The chain store, one of nation's largest seasonal retailers, also will sell accessories in the former Sportsmen's Warehouse at 9895 Hudson Road. Call 651-578-6664.

Munching on a masterpiece Edible art. That's how Robyn Dochterman of the St. Croix Chocolate Company describes her new line of chocolate bars.

The tangy treats feature two designs, a wren and a blackbird, two birds that are commonly seen near the store at 261 Parker St. and throughout the St. Croix River Valley.

Designed by local artist Laura McCaul, the bars come in decorated keepsake boxes. The new items hit the shelves at Dochterman's shop and fine food and gift stores earlier this month.

More fanciful eats might be on the way. Dochterman said she's working on putting designs in the likeness of turtles, doves and frogs on a lily pad on bonbons sold in nine- and 16-piece boxes. Those are expected to be out later this fall. Call 651-433-1400.
