O'Halloran & Murphy is building its first new funeral home in more than 50 years.
Construction on the 12,000-square-foot building at 8700 Valley Creek Road in Woodbury began earlier this month and is expected to be completed in time for a January opening, said Michael O'Halloran, a spokesman for the family-run funeral home.
The two-story building will include a grand lobby, two chapels, a family room and a children's play room on the main level. A large community room for receptions, luncheons and community meeting space will be on the lower level, O'Halloran said. The Georgian Colonial-style building will cost $1.5 million, he said.
The Woodbury location will offer a full line of services, including chapel services, funeral planning and burials, cremation, and sales of caskets and associated merchandise.
When it opens, O'Halloran & Murphy will be only the second funeral home in Woodbury and the fourth in the family's portfolio. It also has locations in St. Paul, Elk River and Roseville.
The city's other funeral home is the Wulff Funeral Home at 2195 Woodbury Drive.
