Fans of Eagan's Parkview Golf Club mourning the impending loss of the course have gotten a short-lived reprieve.
Parkview's owners have reopened the 18-hole course and driving range for one last season and said they will donate all net proceeds to two community organizations.
Parkview was closed earlier this year while its owners waited for the City Council to approve a plan to remake the course into a large housing development.
The council did that last month after a long and contentious meeting where it heard objections from neighbors of the course and area golfers.
Robert Zakheim, one of the owners, said he expects the course and driving range to be open two to three months. "We were able to work something out with the buyers and their development timeline. This way people can get in their final swings and memories," he said.
Eden Prairie-based Hunter Emerson is purchasing the course and plans to build 170 single-family homes on the 80-acre property.
Parkview will donate the net proceeds of driving range and greens fees to the Eagan Resource Center, a local food shelf, and to the family of Ken Severson, a longtime employee and course manager who died in 2004.
The Eagan Resource Center serves Eagan, Lakeville, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Rosemount and Farmington with food supplies and advocates to help direct those in need of various social service agencies.
