Bill Murray finds some love among daddies at a Saints game

Bill Murray should make the max of his charter membership in the MAC Daddies.

This group sounds a lot more wholesome than the image painted of the comedian in those May divorce papers filed by his now ex-wife, Jennifer Murray.

An e-mailer who identified himself as Jeff Carlson wrote that the MAC Daddies met the comedian at a St. Paul Saints game last week: "MAC is an acronym for [Edina] Morningside Athletic Club, and we have become a juggernaut in the area advocating fitness, family and most of all social activities. [Some daddies] attended the Saints game ... and had a wonderful time with Bill Murray, who has now become a charter member of the MAC Daddies. In fact our encounter with him was therapeutic. After some good story-telling of how our group rolls, he decided that he wanted to become a member. With that, he offered to trade hats, however reluctantly. The hat that he was wearing had sentimental value, he said, explaining to us that his hat was the hat he was wearing when arrested for DUI in Stockholm, Sweden. Ultimately, he decided it would be therapeutic to part with it. Bill now sports the MAC logo'd hat, and I have his hat. Bill felt so good about the trade that he ordered a round of beers for us."

Wouldn't have recommended beer after reading the divorce papers viewable on thesmokinggun.com. "In 2006 [Jennifer] moved to Sullivan's Island [S.C] with the parties' four minor children due to [Bill's] adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sex addictions and frequent abandonment," reads page one of the divorce documents.

"We hope Mr. Murray will attend our 2nd Annual Pig Roast this fall as our most noted charter member," wrote Carlson.

Murray might be right at home on the spit.

Love for Patti grows Nine little words from Jamecia Bennett that stopped me in my tracks: "Paris is now starting to get into Patti Austin."

Ignoring my stammering, Jamecia added: "Patti Austin is amazing, man." Preaching to the choir, Jamecia, you're preaching to the choir.

We were talking about the "American Idol" contestant's recent appearance in Atlanta for the AARP, which included a star-studded concert. "Patti Austin, Chaka Khan, Queen Latifah, Shirley Caesar, Yolanda Adams and Mom," Jamecia said, referencing her mother and Paris' grandmother Ann Nesby, the gospel and R&B powerhouse.

"[Paris] cannot stop talking about Patti Austin," said Jamecia. "I wish other young people had the opportunity like Paris. She really gets to see the roots of stuff. It's sad the music is kind of killing their souls; they don't know where the music comes from, and they are not introduced to anything new. It's a blessing to have my child be able to go be around legends.

"Paris said she [Austin] sat down and had a conversation with her about jazz, and, when she [Paris] does her album what things [she'll need] to do. She was so sweet. Mom and Patti Austin have always been good friends."

Jamecia said she'd work on that. Of course, she's probably spending much more time working on Paris' baby shower these days.

Loved that interesting Entertainment Weekly item noting that she hasn't identified the father.

She was running lately Chelsea Handler didn't decelerate one bit for the MAC's Stairmaster.

She might have been feeling a tad pressed. It was after 6:08 p.m., and she had a limo ride ahead of her 7 p.m. sold-out performance at Treasure Island Casino. The comedian, best-selling author and host of E! TV's brutally irreverent "Chelsea Lately" was almost no talk but a whole lot of rapid walk.

Handler was rolling alone, very much under the radar. Dark glasses worn indoors gave her away. She was making good time, her purposeful stride interrupted only by a broken airport escalator to the limo area. As you'll see at startribune.com/video, Handler hoisted her carry-on and got to stepping on the impromptu Metropolitan Airports Commission Stairmaster.
