Bikes. Music. The outdoors. What's not to love?

The Surly KlunkerFunk festival is back for a fifth year, Aug. 6, in Ironton, Minn. They are good times with a purpose.

"KlunkerFunk ties in with the crew's mission on developing an international, year-round, family cycling destination. KlunkerFunk brings family and friends together through their love of bicycling, music and a celebration of the place they love: Cuyuna," said Aaron Hautala, president of Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew, in an e-mail.

Fully known as Surly KlunkerFunk Bicycle Ride & Festival of Trails, the event has four group rides on the trails in the state recreation area. There also will be musical performances on a main stage in downtown Ironton and along recreation area routes. The entertainers include Thirsty River, Casey Aro, Gawker Slowdown, and Chase Down Blue. The festival begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Ironton.

Surly will have bikes to test-ride. All money made at the event goes to the bike crew and its ongoing work to maintain and develop Cuyuna's trail system.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
