Big Snow For Ontario and Quebec

March 4, 2011 at 8:25PM

A major snowstorm will impact southern Ontario and southern Quebec during thenext 36 hours. The storm is being fueled by mild, moist air from the southcolliding head on with much colder air to the north. This will be one of the more significant storms of the season for this portionof Canada. The biggest one day snowfall for Montreal so far was 7.0 inches onFeb. 2. The biggest two day total, 9.7 inches, happen back in early December.

The storm coming this weekend will easily match those figures if it stays allsnow. During the early stages of the storm Montreal will be close to thesnow/rain line where snowfall is often heaviest. On the other hand, any rainwould cut down on the total snowfall.

Though far-northern New England can have some snow and ice from this storm, most of New England will be in the mild sector with rain into Sunday. Afterthat, there is a chance the storm will go over to snow as far south as theBerkshires in western Connecticut Sunday night and Monday.
