The last time Rochester Lourdes and Mankato East met, the game developed in a fashion similar to Friday's Class 1A quarterfinal match, which the Eagles won 4-0 at Roseville High School.

The last time, a close first half was forgotten after Lourdes overwhelmed Mankato East in the second half in a 5-1 victory.

This time, Mankato East had lost five of its past seven games of the season before stringing together four victories.

The late-season surge faded after halftime. Johnny Lawson scored the Eagles' second goal five minutes into the second half. Alan Schembri-Wismayer scored goals three and four within three minutes of each other to make it 4-0.

"We just couldn't connect," Schembri-Wismayer said about the quiet first half. "But in the second half we had a good pep talk ... and we managed to move the ball better."

Karl Krecke scored the game's first goal.
