A large plume of moisture will stretch from the lower Mississippi Valley to NewEngland over the next 24 hours, resulting in flooding across several states. The heaviest rainfall on Wednesday is expected from the Florida panhandle tothe Carolinas, where at least 2-3 inches of rain will fall. The risk forflooding will be high in these areas.

As the rain moves farther north late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, the threat of flooding will shift to the mid-Atlantic states. Most locationscan expect 1-2 inches of rainfall which will be enough to cause minor streetflooding as well as flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Areas west of the Appalachians will be spared from the heaviest of therainfall. However, a steady rain will still create a soggy mess for travel fromLittle Rock, Ark., all the way to Buffalo, N.Y.
