Bicyclist killed in collision with pickup on Minnesota highway, patrol says

The 78-year-old bicyclist died at a central Minnesota hospital.

A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a pickup truck on a central Minnesota highway, officials said.

The crash occurred northwest of Little Falls on Hwy. 115 and 95th Avenue in Darling Township early Saturday evening, the State Patrol said.

Jeffrey Lewis Weaver, 35, of Sauk Centre, Minn., was heading west on Hwy. 115 and “made contact” with bicyclist William Emil Messerschmidt, 78, of Randall, Minn., a patrol statement read.

Messerschmidt was taken by emergency responders to a hospital in Little Falls and died there, the patrol said.
