The Hennepin County medical examiner has released the name of a bicyclist killed Tuesday evening when he was struck by a Blue Line train near 42nd Street and Hiawatha in south Minneapolis.

Colin Michael Brougham, 39, died of multiple injuries after being hit by the northbound train, the medical examiner said. The manner of death was accidental.

Officials don't know why Brougham, who lived nearby, was riding in front of the train.

"It appears the arms were down and the bells were going off as the train was approaching ... a warning sign that a train is coming," Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla said Tuesday.

The last fatal light-rail crash was in January, when a pedestrian was killed when she was struck by a Green Line train in St. Paul.
