A bicyclist was in critical condition after she was struck by a car in St. Paul on Monday evening.

A police report identified the bicyclist as Bernadette L. Spencer, 29, of Minneapolis and the driver of the vehicle as Adrian F. Turnil of St. Paul.

According to Sgt. Mike Ernster, a police spokesman: Police were called to the intersection of Griggs Street and Concordia Avenue about 7:30 p.m. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Concordia when it struck the bicyclist, who had traveled south on a pedestrian bridge and was entering the street.

Spencer was taken to Regions Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday. A woman who answered at a number listed for one of Spencer's family members declined to comment.

Turnil remained at the scene and was cooperative, and was not arrested.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in Turnil's driving, Ernster said.
