Inspired by Merce

Walker Art Center continues its parade of dance commissions inspired by the Merce Cunningham "Common Time" exhibit. This weekend's installment is "Brand New Sidewalk," a world premiere by New York choreographer Beth Gill. As with the other Walker commissions, Gill's work doesn't mirror the Cunningham aesthetic — she simply picks up on his legacy of experimentation. Though Gill's previous work tends toward minimalism, this new piece promises something of a left turn by questioning the formalism we often find in dance. (8 p.m. Fri. & Sat., Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Mpls., $22, 612-375-7600, walkerart.org.)

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
