The Vikings need Bernard Berrian to pick up some of the production they lost in the passing game with Pro Bowl receiver Sidney Rice sidelined at least half the season because of hip surgery.

But Berrian caught only one pass for three yards in the season opener and was a non-factor in the 14-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Berrian also fumbled one punt and returned two for two total yards.

Berrian was asked Wednesday about his individual performance.

"There's always frustration as an individual," he said. "I'm always frustrated. When things are going right I'm still frustrated."

The Saints played more Cover 2 than expected, which Berrian estimated left him with single coverage "maybe 10 times." Berrian was targeted three times by Brett Favre, and the entire receiver corps combined for only four catches.

Berrian said there was a collective frustration with that position group.

"The way we talk about it in our meeting room is the team goes as we go," Berrian said. "That's how we like to talk about it. That's how we try to view ourselves, and that's how we try to go out and play." Berrian said he expects the receivers and himself in particular to be more in sync with Favre with another week of practice. "We have to be better," he said. "It's a week more of preparation, a week more of working with each other, so we have to be better. We just want to make sure we're continuing to get better."
