Bemidji State's Walsh gets another shutout

Bemidji State goalie Andrew Walsh had 27 saves to notch his second consecutive shutout, a 5-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville in men's college hockey on Saturday.

Walsh had a game-high 12 saves in the third period for the host Beavers (9-9-2), who won Friday's series opener 3-0 over the Chargers (1-19-1). Walsh made 20 saves in that game. Brad Hunt, Brady Wacker and Danny Mattson had a goal and an assist apiece for Bemidji State.

St. Cloud St. 5, Denver 1: Nick Jensen scored the first three goals to lead the host Huskies (7-9-4, 5-6-3), giving them a split over the Pioneers (8-7-3, 6-5-3). Cory Thorson and Brooks Bertsch also scored for St. Cloud State, which was outshot 37-31. Jensen's second goal at 13:04 of the first period and Thorson's at 17:39 of the second came on the power play. The Pioneers got their only goal from Shawn Ostrow late in the first period.

Colorado College 6, Minn. St., Mankato 2: Rylan Schwartz had two goals and an assist to lead the visiting Tigers (11-5-0, 9-5-0). J.P. Lafontaine and Michael Dorr scored goals for the Mavericks (5-14-1, 2-11-1).

Stars 2010 opener set for April 7The Minnesota Stars will kick off the 2012 season indoors in a match that pits the 2011 North American Soccer League champions against the league's 2011 regular-season champions, Carolina. The teams will play at 7:30 p.m. on April 7 at the Metrodome.

The RailHawks knocked the Stars out of the playoffs in 2010, and the Stars returned the favor by beating Carolina in the 2011 NASL semifinals. The Stars will release ticket information for the game in January.
