Bear attack lands man in hospital

October 10, 2011 at 3:55AM

A man was hospitalized Saturday night after tangling with a bear in southern Superior, Wis.

The man was with a female deer hunting partner.

A bear wandered onto the scene, and the man tried to chase it off, but the bear began to maul him. The man wounded the bear with a knife, and the woman shot it with an arrow, but the bear ran off. Police tracked and killed it.

The man was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth for treatment of bites. The hunters' names were not released.
