An inmate at the Beltrami County Jail in Bemidji, Minn., died Thursday morning, authorities said.
Tony Edward May, 26, of Red Lake, had been held in jail since early July pending court hearings on charges of drunken driving, Āfleeing police and driving after revocation.
Jail staff were notified by other inmates about 6:50 a.m. that May was unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were started, but he was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics arrived, authorities said.
The Sheriff's Office said the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating May's death.
The Ramsey County medical examiner's office is doing the autopsy.
