Hank Baskett was not on the field for the start of practice Wednesday, but he came out of the building a few minutes later and is participating in his first practice with the Vikings.

The Vikings signed the wide receiver Tuesday night to provide depth to their receiver corps. Baskett was wearing No. 19.

Not surprisingly, Percy Harvin was not on the field today as he gets treatment for a strained right hip. Harvin aggravated the injury Sunday against Miami and it seems unlikely that he will get much practice time this week.

The Vikings have not announced Baskett's signing. The team must make a roster move in order to make room for him on the 53. Rookie tight end Mickey Shuler was not on the field so he presumably was placed on waivers and the team will try and sign him to their practice squad. Shuler made the 53 out of training camp.

It's 12:25 p.m. Central as I type this so there is less than 3 hours until the deadline to trade for Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson for his suspension to be four games. Otherwise, Jackson will be suspended for six games.
