A head of the Basilica of St. Mary will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. today to discuss the parish's concerns about a proposal to build a Minnesota Vikings stadium nearby.

The Rev. John Bauer, the rector of the Basilica of St. Mary, will discuss how the proposed Linden Avenue stadium site will harm the parish and its community. Bauer plans to show an artist rendering that will highlight the stadium's proximity to the iconic landmark.

Vikings officials toured the area last week and conducted a traffic analysis. Team vice president Lester Bagley said Saturday they found no significant challenges with the site. Team officials have said they want to build the stadium in Arden Hills, but Minneapolis officials are fighting to have the stadium built at the site of the Metrodome, a proposal that concerns the Vikings.

The site near the basilica could emerge as a compromise location.
