He may no longer be tastemaker in chief but Barack Obama is continuing his tradition of publishing his year-end list of favorite books, movies and songs on Facebook.

Prince’s “Mary Don’t You Weep” – the former POTUS cites the version from the “Piano and a Microphone 1983” album – made the list of songs.

You’ll recall that Prince gave a “secret,” unannounced concert at the White House in June 2015 during the Obama administration. When Prince died in April 2016, the president called him “one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time.”

When it comes to music Obama is nothing if not eclectic in his tastes in 2018, praising tunes by Ashley McBryde, Brand Carlile, Cardi B, Leon Bridges, H.E.R., the Carters (Beyonce and Jay-Z), Janelle Monae, Lord Huron, Courtney Barnett, Chance the Rapper, Anderson East, J. Cole and others. He also gives a shout-out to the classic album “The Great American Songbook” by Nancy Wilson, who died in 2018.

While his lists are in alphabetical order, only one item received a ranking. That would be his top book – “Becoming” by Michelle Obama – “obviously my favorite!”
