Our new president Barack Obama showed us today that we are all more than American: from this day forth we must share him and ourselves with the world. This is an astounding truth acknowledged by the president himself when he said in his inaugural speech:"....that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace."
The panorama of the inaugural, the parade of bands and the single camera views of individuals with tears streaming down their faces sent the message that our country had passed a test of itself, one that is dearly needed if we as a nation are going to regain our dignity and respect in the world. We have not earned it yet, but we have shown the world that we want to try.
The adopted son of the Crow Tribes and the son of Hawaii and the son of Kenya watched the parade with an assuring smile. And we all smiled back.
Barack Obama Makes Everyone Smile
The new president spoke of our place in the world and the world smiled in acknowledgment that we have entered a new time in our history.
