Bar & restaurant deals 5/17: Let them eat cake (and drink cheap)

Until last week, the no-fun zone known as Edina was the last city in the state to prohibit happy hour drink specials. But at last, the spirits suppression in cake-eater country is no more (see page 31)! Celebrate the suburb's newfound freedom with some of these first-time drink deals.

Tavern on France

Dabbling in fun along France Avenue just got a lot easier on your bank account, and this stylish first-ring saloon ain't a bad place to save. From 3-6 p.m. and 9 p.m.-close weekdays, the tabernacle features $3 tap beers and knocks $2 off wines and select cocktails.

Edina Grill

We know those country-club memberships can be costly (aw, we're just playin', Edina). But at least drinking at 50th and France will be less wallet-walloping than in years past. The Blue Plate restaurant embraces the boozier era with $3 rails, $3-$4 taps and $4-$5 wines from 4-6 p.m. weekdays. Long live cheap hooch!

Crave

Let's not forget the importance of food in finding a good happy hour. While we appreciate the daily $3 beer selection and $5 select wines and frou-frou drinks, this big-box fusion joint offers an array of thrifty food options during its 3-6 p.m. and 9 p.m.-close weekday happy hours (8 p.m.-close Sundays). Soak up frilly libations with $3-$5 sushi rolls, mini pizzas or crunchy chicken sliders.
