A woman from Bagley, Minn., was killed on her 39th birthday Wednesday morning and her two children were injured when she lost control of her car on Hwy. 2 in northwestern Minnesota.

The State Patrol reported that Clarissa H. Ballek was eastbound on the ice-covered road near Fosston, in Polk County, shortly before 8:30 a.m., when she overcorrected her steering, which caused the car to roll over.

Ballek, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was fatally injured when she was ejected from the car. She was taken to the Fosston hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

One of Ballek's sons who was sitting unbelted in the back seat also was ejected and suffered what the patrol described as a "serious" injury. Another son, who was sitting in the front seat and did have a seat belt on, suffered a broken arm, the patrol reported. The patrol identified the two as Joseph Ballek, 13, and Corban Ballek, 10, but did not specify who was where in the car.

Both are hospitalized at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
